Welcome
For nearly a century, the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra has been British Columbia's premier training orchestra, providing our musicians with the highest possible standard of orchestral training, from the beginning ensemble player to the most advanced.
Our mission is to nurture and develop young musicians, both artistically and as individuals, while making a difference in their lives and contributing to the dynamism of the local and provincial community. Many former VYSO musicians go on to acclaimed musical careers, and many current VYSO musicians will follow in their paths. Join us!
The VYSO offers four student orchestras, Debut, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior, depending on age and experience. Our programs provide young musicians with the opportunity to explore and hone their potential in a challenging and secure environment. Through rehearsals, performances and workshops, our musicians develop dedication and excellence.
For those who wish to pursue their abilities as soloists, we conduct annual concerto competitions, whose winners have the opportunity to perform as concert soloists with their orchestra. Competitive auditions are open to young people between the ages of 8 and 22 who study music with a private instructor.
