Auditions
Auditions will be judged according musicanship, instrumental ability, sight-reading ability and specific instrumental requirements of each orchestra. No piano accompaniment required.
Debut String Orchestra: Minimum age 8 on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Royal Conservatory Grade 3 to 4. Audition (7 minutes) includes:
- Solo piece of your choice
- Grade 3 or higher scales by memory
- Sight-reading
- No excerpts required
Junior String Orchestra: Minimum age 10 on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Royal Conservatory Grade 5 to 6. Audition (7 minutes) includes:
- Solo piece of your choice (demonstrate shifting skills)
- Grade 5 or higher scales by memory
- Sight reading
- No excerpts required
Intermediate Orchestra: Minimum age 12 on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Minimum Royal Conservatory Grade 7 to 8. Audition includes:
- String Players: minimum grade 7 scales by memory (Will be asked to play 1 major & 1 minor)
- Woodwind & Brass Players: all major and minor scales by memory, 2 octaves where possible (Will be asked to play 1 major & 1 minor)
- Percussion Players: please call the office for requirements
- All Musicians: 3 to 5 minute piece or study of choice
- Sight-reading
- Excerpt specifics by instruments.
Senior Orchestra: Musicians, age 14 to 22 on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Minimum Royal Conservatory Grade 9 to 10.
- String Players: all major and minor scales by memory. (Will be asked to play 1 major & 1 minor)
- Woodwind & Brass Players: all major and minor scales by memory, 2 octaves where possible. (Will be asked to play 1 major & 1 minor)
- Percussion Players: please call the office for requirements
- All Musicians: 3 to 5 minute piece or study of choice
- Excerpt specifics by instruments.
